Blog Tour/Guest Post: Tia McCollors

Dee411 welcomes Tia McCollors as she stops in on her Tywebbin Virtual Book Tour for her upcoming release, Steppin’ into the Good Life. Tia has prepared a blog post for us and without further ado, we’re just going to get right to it:

I remember almost three years ago when my son wasn’t quite two years old. As toddlers sometimes do, he was whining about having to eat strange looking vegetables. This particular day, he was pouting about carrots. So, in my ‘being-a-good-mother and raising-a-healthy-family’ voice, I told him, “We have to have carrots. They’re good for our eyes.”

I turned my back to finish making my plate, then returned to the dining room table only to see my son’s eyes covered in orange, mushy carrots! What a funny memory that I often share with others.

I never told him to eat the carrots, I’d only told him we had to have them. He just did what made sense in his two-year-old mind!

My questions to you: (1) Have you been frustrated with someone who didn’t follow your instructions?  (2) Did you communicate clearly? (3) Are you in an overwhelming situation that you need to “see” from a different perspective?

I’d probably ask those same questions to Sheila Rushmore, the main character in my latest novel, Steppin’ Into The Good Life. Sheila has had (and continues to have) her share of relationship problems.

As the book opens, Sheila is trying to get over the fact that the man she thought was part of her happily-ever-after – Ace Bowers – left her for another woman. And not just any other woman – but his ex-wife, Lynette.

So in her crazy attempt to get closure and convince herself to “move on,” Sheila sneaks into the church to witness Ace and Lynette’s recommitment ceremony. She’s sitting there on the back row among Lynette and Ace’s family and friends. And while her intention is to close the door to her past, she ends up opening her heart to a relationship that will change her future.

Sheila doesn’t want to be the woman she used to be, but sometimes it takes a while for your faith to line up with your actions. And like Sheila, we all need to see things from a different perspective after we wipe those carrots off of our eyes.

About the Book

Shelia Rushmore thought she’d be the last woman standing when it was time to fight for her man. Instead Ace, her boyfriend of two years, chose to reunite with his ex-wife, leaving Shelia emotionally devastated. It’s a year later when Sheila is convinced that sneaking into their wedding ceremony will put closure on the gaping hole in her heart.

But it’s on the back pew of the church where a new relationship begins for Shelia. She can’t explain the touch she received from God on that day, but she’s determined to be a better woman-a woman of faith. Since high school, Shelia has been chasing her definition of the good life – it’s left her with no home, no man, and no money. But now that’s she’s living life for God, things should get better, right? Shelia learns that living a faith-filled life isn’t always easy.

With faith, tough love, and some tough decisions, Shelia realizes that the life she’d been praying for she could have for herself is actually attainable. Being wrapped in God’s arms, she decided, was by far the safest place she’d ever been.
